My main interests are pain research and neuroscience in general, which I study using a variety of techniques e.g. functional neuroimaging, magnetic resonance spectroscopy and diffusion weighted imaging. Recently I have developed new techniques for acquiring functional imaging data from the spinal cord, which is a key relay point for integration and transmission of nociceptive signals from the peripheral nervous system, and the first point in the central nervous system (CNS) where these signals are processed. I am a senior member of the Pain Imaging Neuroscience (PaIN) Group, which is based jointly at FMRIB (see our home page) and The Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (see Professor Irene Tracey's web page).
