Magstim/University of Oxford TMS Summer School
Magstim/University of Oxford TMS Summer School
which will take place on:Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th June 2010
Organised by: Jacinta O’Shea, Heidi Johansen-Berg and Vincent Walsh
Enquires: tmsschool@fmrib.ox.ac.uk
2010 marks two important anniversaries: 25 years since Anthony
Barker and colleagues’ publication of the first human TMS experiment,
and 20 years since the foundation of the Magstim Company. To celebrate
these milestones we are pleased to include a special plenary lecture by
Professor Anthony Barker – TMS: the first 25 years - and to offer
registrants the opportunity to attend a celebratory dinner.
The
scientific program is organised as a single stream of lectures by
distinguished international faculty. Invited talks have an educational
goal in addition to presenting the results of cutting edge research.
This year the two-day programme is focussed on two themes:
Day 1: “Brain stimulation approaches to neural circuit function”
Day 2: “Brain stimulation to enhance sensory, motor and cognitive functions”
A detailed programme can be downloaded here. The talks will be held in the Department of Experimental Psychology, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 4AD
In
addition, there will be displays of magnetic stimulation,
neuro-navigation and electrophysiological products by: The Magstim
Company and Rogue Research.
Confirmed Speakers include:
(Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering, Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, U.K.)
Leo Cohen
(National Institute of Neurological Disorders & Stroke, NIH, Bethesda, USA)
Roi Cohen Kadosh
(Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Oxford, U.K.)

Abstracts & Posters
In
addition to these invited talks, we strongly encourage poster
submissions from students, post-doctoral and established researchers
working on any aspect of human brain stimulation. There will be
dedicated poster sessions in the morning and afternoon of each day. An
abstract review committee will grade submissions and a small number of
the highest rated abstracts will be selected to give brief oral
platform presentations. Abstract authors will be informed in advance if
they are being invited to give a brief presentation. In addition, these
poster winners will be invited free of charge as guests at the
celebratory dinner. Please submit all abstracts before the abstract submission deadline of Monday 31 May to:
jacinta.oshea@clneuro.ox.ac.uk
Abstract Guidelines
Poster abstract submissions should include Title, Authors and Affiliations,
Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusions and References (if required).
Figures and tables may be included, but their size should be compressed
sufficiently to ensure that they are deliverable by email. The word limit is a
maximum of 500 words (excluding authors, affiliations, figure legends and
references).
Please send your abstracts by the deadline of 31 May and indicate whether you
would like to be considered for a prize oral platform presentation to: jacinta.oshea@clneuro.ox.ac.uk
Poster Guidelines
Please set up your poster from 8-9am on the day of your poster presentation.
Maximum size is A0 in landscape or portrait orientation.
Young Investigator Award
The
2010 Young Investigator Award will also be announced at the meeting.
Nominations including self-nominations are encouraged. The YIA will be awarded to an early career researcher who has made significant contributions in the field of brain stimulation research. Please send a CV
and two recent papers (published or unpublished) to
jacinta.oshea@clneuro.ox.ac.uk by the deadline for YIA applications:
Monday 31 May 2010. YIA applications will be adjudicated by an
international panel of invited experts. The winner will be invited to
give a brief talk on their work, will be an invited guest at the
celebratory dinner, and will receive a £500 prize, sponsored by the
Magstim Company.
