Neurodegeneration

FMRIB’s Neurodegeneration group comprises clinical and basic neuroscientists across a range of departments and disciplines with a common interest in using neuroimaging to understand normal ageing and disease processes. By providing a window on the living brain, neuroimaging has a unique role alongside genetics, cellular biology and traditional post mortem neuropathology, towards our goal of furthering understanding of the causes of these devastating diseases, improving diagnosis and developing treatments. A common aspiration within the group is to identify early biomarkers of disease so that pre-symptomatic individuals at high risk can be identified and ultimately given preventative therapies.
